Soap dish has fallen off in shower - how do I put it back on?

Hey, first-time poster here. Not much of a handyman and sort of lost on how to proceed...

Pretty simple story - I accidentally pulled the soap dish off in the shower, and I'm puzzled when I look at the back - What is the white stuff in those two divets that held it to the wall? Do I need to bore the white stuff out of both surfaces and refill it? And what would I refill it with? Can I get away with putting epoxy on the soap dish, pressing it on, and applying some caulk around the edge?

And advice would be very helpful and much appriciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

Hi Ben, welcome! You can use some silicone caulk to stick it back in. Use some masking tape to hold it in place till it dries. Hard to tell what the white stuff is. Could be thinset or caulk.

his soap dish was set with white unsanded grout. the white dots on the back is actually the mold holes where the grout went onto the ceramic soap dish to hold it on the wall.

like this on a towel bar...
