Using Kerdiband with Redguard?

Hi, New member here. I searched the forum but didn’t find what I was looking for. I am a GC who does small tile jobs in-house, but contracts out larger jobs to a quality sub. On an upcoming tub surround job where budget is an issue, my sub suggested to use Kerdi-band on all seams and corners and use a liquid membrane on remaining surface (instead of using Kerdi throughout). I have 3 questions below:

1. Anybody else use this technique?

2. Will the liquid membrane adhere to the Kerdi?

3. If this is an accepted technique, which liquid membrane is recommended?

Thanks for any opinions and advice.

I can't see why it wouldn't work, but neither manufacturer is going to back up their product if there is a warranty issue.

I have used redguard, but ever since I tried Hydroban I have never gone back.

1) I haven't.

2) Probably not.

3) It's not an accepted technique by either of the product manufacturers. If budget is an issue, use fiberflass mesh tape to do the corners. Heck, tape and mud the corners with CBU tape and thinset and Redgard over them

Ace, is he trying to get rid of his over stock?

It's an extra $50 to go all Kerdi - is it really coming down to this?

I have used Redgard to seam some of my installs - steam showers - custom install - I provide the warranty.
