marble wall tile install

Hello, can someone tell me if it's ok to install marble wall tile in bathroom with premixed thinset? The wall are painted with latex paint but are in excellent condition,no chipping or peeling.

Thank you sam

Everyone here is going to advise you against it. Also you don't want to install the tile over a painted surface. You will have to roughen up the painted surface before you tile it.

Use a modified thinset like versabond that you find in home depot. It's a cement based product and will give you stronger longer lasting results. Just add water and mix it, it's not that big of a deal. I don't see any benefit of using premixed stuff. Mixing thinset is like making pancakes.

premixed thinset is essentially mastic, and organic glue. it doesn't dry well behind stone because it can't breath. Scratch the wall up and use white versabond-- a cement based thinset mortar that doesn't need air to cure.

Also, only lay over drywall in non wet areas.

Sam, another vote for Versabond. It's better and cheaper.
