I want to use a drop-in whirlpool in a three walled installation, how?

My current master bath has a 5' clawfoot tub in a 48"x80" opening with one large window to the exterior. There is a much better selection of drop-in whirlpools than traditional three wall tubs.

I am thinking through the process of tiling down to the tub surface of a drop-in but I am creating a potential problem without a tub flange to contain any water that penetrates through the grout.

Anyone have pictures, details or other tips for this?

David, your problem will be bigger that you thought. Not only will there be no flange to keep the water out of the wall, but the lip (rim) of a drop in tub will force the water towards the wall. Keep looking for either a 3-wall alcove tube or an undermount tub.

Some manufacturers make a flange kit for their drop-in tubs...check to see what options are available. If the manufcturer doens't offer it as an option, you may not want to go that way.
