Here is a simple kitchen remodel of a small cabin using tumbled rosa travertine for the backsplash, with ceramic 3-D pinecone insets. You can see more on the thread:

Granite tile and travertine kitchen
Granite tile, tumbled travertine backsplash with matching granite insets. Carried the travertine onto island base and granite onto the rolling cart. Also, with some offline help here, we made matching travertine outlet covers for the backsplash. Way cool looking! And yes, the After pics look odd 'cuz we moved the fridge and side cabs to make one long counter. No thread on this one.

mmmm, lovely aint it? yes indeed. the whole house was naaaaaasty like this. this was a fixer my girlfriend and i fixed and sold about 8 months ago. it's a cinderblock house (look close by the window in the BEFORE pic) with a crawl space and major rot...you'll see in the bathroom pics to come.
we gutted the kitchen, added ply and hardibacker to the floor, and she tiled the floor and did an awesome job. i hung the cabinets (first time) and the granite and backsplash were hired out.

Hi neill,
I reduced the size of the last two photos you had. When they are that large, they force the forum software to increase the page margins and pushes all sorts of stuff off the screen. Very hard to scroll around to read posts or navigate.
The first two photos you had are no problem at all.

Marge - I just love that back lighting in the kitchen. What did you use for that?
Great photos. Great thread.

They are from Ikea. I think they are called Arlig in beech veneer. Turned out pretty good even though I still have some work to do. Thanks.

My kitchen remodel (more like destruction) took a small kitchen and sunroom and turned it into one large kitchen.
It was a long journey but worth it in the end. The countertops are Cambria quartz slabs, the backsplash is tumbled travertine from Floor & Decor and the floor is DalTile Pietre Vecchie. You can see all the pictures at

John...thanks for the great site. I read and read and read before starting on my project and asking my dumb questions. http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/...ad.php?t=41158 This place is great!
