One day when I am all grown up I hope to live in a place that gets kicked in the nuts with snow like you get up there. That is probably ass backwards as it gets and something that someone that pushes snow would only understand.

Nothing like experiencing a big snowfall and being right in the middle of it. The adrenaline starts as you realize that this isn't going to be a simple run through the route.

Based on the timing of the snow you have to start prioritizing the properties based on :
-what needs to be open and at what time.
- when do employees get in vs customers
-whats going to be open and closed that day
- what properties have low triggers vs high triggers
-what properties are per trips vs contract
- what properties get salt vs non salt properties
- which property owner will get really pissed when you put them off for a few hours.

All these factors help get you form a game plan to do the properties efficiently.
This year we have 19 properties on our route. They range from a small public utility substation that's a half acre to medical facilities all the way up to large shopping centers. On this route we have 9 pieces of equipment with 9 guys to run them. Multiply that by 10 routes company wide. Coordination is key for everything to run smoothly.
Some people reading and following this thread might think, "Hey now, it's just snow. How hard and complicated can it be?". On the surface you are right. Get into the guts of it and it's not so simple. But, with good guys and good planning it's really pretty fun.
....and don't get me started on the paperwork !!

....any questions on commercial snow plowing?

That is a nice write up but You forgot about the breakdowns and having to cover those. I have 41 properties in my zone 17 trucks, 4 skids, a wheeled loader and this kid with a tractor to cover. We everything from a little 8 parking space liquor store to a monster Fedex (which was 40 acres but they cut it down to 10 The had 2 skids a backhoe and 2 trucks). Everything you listed is what I go through when we get a storm big or little. I like the ones during the week cause there is nothing other than what time do they open. ok price chopper opens at 6 and the church has mass every morning at 6:30. It is the saturdays and sundays who's open, what time do the close so we can start a full push. so if nobody marks of thing go pretty some unless there is a break down then I just send on my assistant to cover tell the other driver where are you i will meet you and hopefully get him back up and running. The program on the ipad takes care of who when how much. But if we have a big storm coming in I will sit in my office about 2 hours before go time and formulate a plan as to where the back ups are going and yes some time it gets overwhelming when you 5 guys calling hey I done where do you want me to go. I tell them all text me when you are getting close and text me when you are done I will have some thing for you by thing and of course the don't so now I got 5 guys texting me where do yo want me to go. and at this point I have no idea what is done or not. so my go to is stand by I'll call you back. then I hav to start calling the other guys to figure out where I can send them

Breakdowns are their own special fun times Shawn. Right behind are the no shows and "I overslept".

That's a cool rig. Looks like airport equipment.

CRAIG!!!!!! look what we got today it was like Christmas. Day went like. The weather services, all of them at 7 am called for a dusting like a 1/4 in at 8:45am they called for 1/2-1in at 10:30 we had a 1 1/2 in on the ground and bam 2in by noon. The 2nd picture is me trapped inside a government gated lot. through out the day I bet I spend a total of a hour sitting inside or outside eating on the dam security guard to let me through. And twice this asshat was sitting in the booth the whole time

Our mechanics in the shop have a sense of humor. This is the work order/ in service/ out of service board.

Looks like truck 983 is a goner.
