What do the dying regret?

The lady at this blog worked in the health care field and directly with patients that were dying. This is what she learned from those faced with their own mortality:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
In regards to #5, she says: "This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice."

She elaborates more if you click the link.

Jim those are things I do now because I see just that what you are speaking of in people who don't have much time left. They wish they had more time for people over working so hard and being so busy for everyone. The "I am too busy." I get that a lot from people so I stop bothering with them, they will be the same ones like on your list. Wish they had stayed in touch, did what they wanted not what everyone else expected of them making them happier.

These five statements are dead on, I am not waiting till my life is about over to do them either I do them now.

I work yes but not all the time which frees me up to spend time with people who have time which aren't many. I express my feelings though I don't expect everyone to agree or have the same ones. I try to stay in touch with friends and some have time to stay in touch back. I find a way to be happy every day no matter what is going on around me. I have another day and appreciate it.

Good post Jim, I always said I wish people would find time for others as opposed to never having anytime but for themselves and their place of work.

Let’s hope not to live a life of regrets but of love, for it what we wish to leave behind.

If people would love thee like they love themselves we would have a world of love not hatred and regret.

Truer words have never been spoken by the lady dealing with the dying and C.X. I'm 62 and the last few years have seen myself and my lovely partner Karen caring for 3 family members with in home hospice.

That experience changed me and all of those lovely people said about the same thing.

Enjoy your friends and Family while you can.

C'mon, Frank, you know you'll be regrettin' not havin' been nicer to ol' CX back when he was still alive. Don't try to act tough about it, it's really pretty obvious to all your friends here.

I read that list a while ago on a website, and I think it's very true. Sadly, I would agree with most of them if I was in that position.

Sadly several people that are very close to me are nearing the end of their lives as we speak.

These statements come up repeatedly:
"dont work so hard"
and
"enjoy your life"
and
"spend more time with your daughter"

The only thing I have heard about money so far is "Yes, you need money. But money doesnt help you."

"dont work so hard" came from the two hardest working men I have ever met.
