All showers leak?

We recently had a contractor retile our shower because it was leaking. We asked for a warranty of some kind, and he replied "all showers leak". Just interested what other pros think about this? Do all showers leak? And if so, do they often leak enough to drip on the floor below? I realize all situations are different, just wanted thoughts on this. Thank you.

Absolutely not. Well, unless you count that big ol' hole in the floor that's connected to the sewer system and call water running through that a leak.

Properly constructed showers do not leak. At least not for the first 50 years or so. I would consider 30 years an absolute minimum period for a shower to function daily without any leaking. I have traditionally built showers out there that are older than that without failures of any kind.

I'm sorry you didn't get that response before you let that guy build you a new shower.

My opinion; worth price charged.

That's pretty lame. Many tile contractors make it a point to make sure their showers don't leak. Apparently your's isn't one of them. Geez....

There are several "proper" ways to do a tile shower, none of which leak. None of us would be in business long if that were the case.

Hi Michael. Hopefully the installer that "retiled" your shower fixed the leak issue and didn't just put new tile over existing failures.
