Absolutely not. Well, unless you count that big ol' hole in the floor that's connected to the sewer system and call water running through that a leak.
Properly constructed showers do not leak. At least not for the first 50 years or so. I would consider 30 years an absolute minimum period for a shower to function daily without any leaking. I have traditionally built showers out there that are older than that without failures of any kind.
I'm sorry you didn't get that response before you let that guy build you a new shower.
