James, you and I have the same problem - I think.

I asked in my thread about extra thinset, or a 1/8" filler panel - in my case Wedi System. The blade gives scale:

My niches are 12' x 12". My tile (as it turns out) is 11 13/16". So no matter how I laid it out, there were going to be issues. At least that's the excuse I'm going with.

I really appreciate all of the help. But sometimes you just have to admit defeat. After running around to all the stores available to me I could not find any trim pieces to match the color exactly. Then I spent several hours trying to reduce the size of the niche and cut a custom piece of trim.

So...I decided last night that niches were really overrated anyway and filled the stupid thing in with kerdi and applied more kerdi over the top. Happiest moment of my life. We are going to buy a tique shower bench and I will learn to reach down to grab the shampoo. Here is a picture with tile over the niche.

Kevin I appreciate the help but it was just out of my skill set!

It's all good, James. As long as you're happy with it, that's what matters.

Exactly how did you fill the opening?

James, you might now consider some corner shelves. Schluter has some crafted of thin metal, and they install INTO the grout lines - no need to cut tile.

Add two to each inside corner. No need to learn to bend down.
If I recall correctly my memory is excellent, but my ability to access it is intermittent.

Shower niche location problem

You made the right choice as you would have seen that niche everyday and cursed it

So how would someone start a niche like that and have it be perfect. Do you start at niche?
Ledger boards ? How do you do it
