Travertine tile over wood subfloor

I’m wanting to install travertine tile (Sandcastle, 1/2”x16”x16”, factory filled and semi-polished) in my small bathroom (7’x10’). The bathroom has been completely gutted, including new treated 2x10 treated floor joists (16” oc, 14’ span) with ¾” plywood flooring.

My plan – add additional 3/8” plywood with 30# builder felt between plywood (3/4”+3/8”=1 1/8” sub floor). I plan to then use a modified thinset (3/16” v-notched trial) under Ditra and then apply a white un-modified thinset (1/2” v-notched trial) under the buttered tile. I plan to use a non-sanded grout to fill the 1/16” spacing between the stones. I do not plan to seal the travertine. Should I seal the grout?

Am I on the right track? Overkill? Beef it up? Go with vinyl? Lol

Run you joist dimmensions through the "deflecto" in the blue bar above...you'll find your floor is fine for ceramic, but not stone. rethink your choices. With ceramic, you don't need the second layer of plywood. You don't need or really want the felt between the layers, either. You'll need either a support wall under the floor somewhere or to reenforce the floor somehow.

I would definitely seal both the travertine and the grout.

As stated the bathroom is 7'x10', 2x10 joists on 16" oc with a span of 14'. I looked under the subfloor and there is a center support beam running perpendicular to the floor joists approx. center of the 14' span. Do you think, with the center support beam this is sufficient for travertine tile?

The beam cuts your span down to 7 feet. That should be fine for your travertine.
