Schluter edging for tile

Quick question...when using Schluter edging, do you buy it a size up from the thickness of a tile? My tile is 3/8"....do I get 1/2" to allow for thinset?
Thanks in advance.

The profiles are actually metric, so depends. Your tile may also be metric, so you may get an exact match. Check it carefully, or verify on the box.

You don't want the profile to stick above the tile, and normally, the tile ends up sitting directly on the profile, so thinset thickness isn't an issue.

Buy it for the thickness of your tile. So if you have 3/8" thick tile order the 3/8" profile.

For a floor installation, I like the edging to be equal to or slightly higher than the tile so you actually get the edge protection benefit. For walls and countertops, its mostly cosmetic, so get what you think will look the best.
