Bath remodel just got put on hold

In two weeks we are selling our house and buying a new one an hour later. Our new home is three times bigger with two and a half baths that are way out of date. Right after we got settled in, I was going to start a total rehab of the main bathroom using the $6,500 home buyer welfare that we had coming. Now, I just found out that because my wife has not lived in our old home for five years, we don't qualify! I would get a $6,500 tax credit if I were single. My wife would get a $8,000 credit if she were single. If she lived with me for five years or if I did'nt own a home we would qualify. But under our circumstances, we don't qualify for crap! I'm leaning a bit republican today.

It is way past time for the world and this country to stop treating people as if they were two different creatures. Benefits like this(and many others) should be awarded on an individual basis. You shouldn't esentially become a different species because you got married.

Or, we could stop confiscating from some and giving it to others.

can you get divorced before you close? Seriously. I've heard of people doing short term divorces for various tax reasons. I would find a real good tax attorney real quick and ask the question.
