Hi Tom...............

Moderator Bubba (Tool Guy - Kg) has been trying to contact you by PM..... he has been handling the TYW millionth post contest.

I was not aware that Laticrete's Spectralock three part epoxy grout shipped with a cleaner...... my Spectarlock instructions said to use white vinegar IN WATER (I believe I recall one cup of vinegar to one gallon of water).

Anyway..... that's all I ever used to clean up after grouting with Spectralock.

Tom,

If its any help, we keep several gallons of white vinegar in the work shop all the time. Its great for spectralock and cleaning cementitious grout too. Stinky but effective. Just tell the neighbors the burritos were excellent.

Sad to say I've actually been carrying my Spectralock instructions around with me so I have them right here. They are from a mini unit from Lowes.

"Add approximately 1/2 cup (.12L) of pure white vinegar to 2 gallons (7.6L) of clean water and mix together thoroughly....Change vinegar/water mixture every 50sq ft (4.7sq m) when using multiple units. "

all the fix-ups and grouting is finally done. the shade difference is still here but being strategic about it helped. lippage in few spots. but what can you do... let's say it is tolerable.

i am caulking the changes of plane. latasil bright white seems much lighter than bright white spectralock. does latasil darken as it cures? how long does it take for it to cure? (the tube just says to wait 4 days for pool applications)

right now i am reluctant to continue. if the final/cured color will not match the grout, can i grout the corners instead? is epoxy grout less likely to crack?

Tom,

yes the epoxy is less likely to crack as it is more flexible than cementitious grouts. Ol' JB hisself grouts corners wall to wall. Not sure if he does it with epoxy though.

Perhaps you can locate another brand of silicone (ge - colorite) that will match the color of the grout better?

thanks paul.

the caulk is the expensive latasil made to match expensive spectralock grout. it is waaay off. from what you say, i think that if jb grouts corners, so can i (instead of waiting for another expensive caulk that might not match).

That's funny. I was just wondering the same thing last night. We will not be happy unless we get "after" pics.

Come back

Hope he's alright. A broken leg & lack of health Ins. stopped my postings & projects. I'm currently deciding on whether to continue with planned improvements or bite the bullet and sell.

back from the dead

there is no excuse for my disappearing act so i will not even try...

hope everyone is doing well.

here, the bathroom was brought to a functional state (all tiling was done, shower is working, toilet is installed) and i shifted my focus to the rest of the apt. i am not ready for the final 'after' photos yet but just wanted to let everyone know that everything worked out well -- no leaks, no mold, no water hammer, good drainage, good flow etc. thanks for all the great help.

i'll be back with the after photos hopefully soon.
