mud bed need to add more

Hey all MAC here
Question, I need to install kerdi drain into a mud bed that has been down for about 1 week down. I will be raising the drain up so that i have a bit over 1 inch of total mud under it to the 3/4 sub floor, then re screeding more mud out to the walls for the slope to be right. What should I use to bond the new deck mud to the bed that has been down for a week. Unmodified thin set?

thanks mike.
I was just not sure. So many opinons on mod and unmod thin set.

Got another question, How does one support first run of tile on wall without fastening a ledger board to wall. I will be installing kerdi to walls and dont want to put a screw or nail through it

HI, Mac. I merged you back with your initial thread for the shower so we don't lose all the history of the project. Just stay with this one until the project is finished so anyone who wants to help or to learn something will be able to tell what you're doing. We can rename it if you like.

But we can't edit out all the drivel.

For the starter row it's pretty common to just lay a leger board across something sitting on the floor. A stack of tiles and maybe some cardboard spacers works pretty well.

More Mud

OK all, I have received my Kerdi products and Drain. Oh yeah and my Instructions (Thanks David)

Since I had to cut out the 3 piece old/new drain (that was just installed).
I decided to lay in a bit more mud.
The hole size was a good deal larger than what was needed for the new kerdi drain. So I took the template that came with the new drain and cutout that dimension in the center of a piece of 3/4 stock and screwed it to the bottom side of the subfloor.
I then preped the sloped mud bed with thinset mixed just a bit loose and went over the entire area. I then laid in more mud ontop of the thinset, ensuring that i had an 1 inch under the new drain flange. (the 3/4 stock with the new whole cut into it) prevented the new mud packed under the new drain from dropping out and down into the crawl space and gave it a foundation.
I then added more mud to the rest of the presloped mud base and finished it off.
I guess that I am ready to start applying the kerdi memebrane to everything.

SO CX have I acomplished this to your greatnesses specs?

I do have a question ( but of course) if you look at the pictures, I have installed CBU (durock) to the entire area except to the shelf area of the niche's. the back wall of the niche's are durock but not the sides or the shelf.
Will the Laticrete 317 adhere the kerdi to these areas along with the rest of the durocked areas?
I will be lightly wetting down the durock so that the thinset will be able to cure out properly(As suggested in these forums, somewhere I read)

Will be waiting for an experts reply before preceeding.

Moderately acceptable.

I don't know what Laticrete 317 is, Mac. If it's a latex-modified thinset and you wanna know if it'll stick to the wood framing, I'd say yes. If it's something else, I don't understand the question.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Did you git the extra mud from David Taylor?
