Add small walkin shower; Possible?

Hi,

I am in the thinking phase of a bath room upgrade. Looking for thoughts on the possibility of adding a small walk in shower to the area to the left of the tub. My wife would like something she does not have to step over as we age.

The wall would be the common point for the water supply plumbing and the drains for the shower and tub could be joined.

I know this would be a large undertaking, but I have done a complete full bath redo (replaced tub, vanity, tiled walls and floor).

Just looking for general thoughts, ideas.

Of course, the kittys business area would have to be relocated

Thank you

Stuart, you can put a shower in any place that you see fit and nobody here could stop ya!
I think you’d be fine to figure a shower in that there space.
Are you on a raised wood foundation or a slab on grade?
Making it a curbless, and getting your drain there will be the bear depending on your answer.

Hi,

It's on a second floor, so access to the plumbing below the wood subfloor is not difficult.

Just seeing if anyone had other thoughts or the work would be more difficult than the usual challeges of adding a shower with acceptable techniques, etc.

Thank you

Sweet!! You’re in business then
I’d be inclined to make the partition wall a pony wall, with the valves and have a nipple on the opposite wall or from the ceiling as a rain head.
Or reconfigure the whole layout and pushe the tub into the corner, have a pony wall with a niche as a partition. Valves and nipples on both opposing side walls.
However you proceed, you’ll be improving your home. Best of luck, keep us updated as you progress

I dunno, Stewart, that space looks really narrow from here. I believe the IRC (International Residential Code) says minimum for a walk-in shower stall is 30X30 inches so you'd need to ensure you've got that after the tile is installed.

That window is also going to be a challenge. In such a small shower it is going to be inundated with water. Every time.

Like CG mentioned, you may need to consider re-configuring the layout.
