Custom Polyblend caulk--does it really match?

I've read quite a bit about the tendency for Polyblend grout to dry a shade or so lighter than the sample, even when the appropriate amount of water is used during mixing and cleaning.

So the shade of tan I think I want for part of my backsplash happens to be of the Polyblend variety (Sahara Tan). My question is: Does the matching unsanded caulk match the color of the sample or the color of the grout when it's actually dry? When both products are dry, are they a true match for each other?

Thanks!

They're generally pretty close. The caulk is consistant but the grout colour can vary a bit depending on how wet you mix it, your technique for sponging it clean, mineral content of your water, etc....

In my experience they are as close or closer than anything else you will find

I guess you could wait until you grout, to see if you need to go a shade lighter on the caulk.

So I learned the matching Sahara Tan only comes in Sanded at the local HD. Do the same rules apply with caulk as with grout regarding joint size and sanded vs. unsanded? I have 1/16 joints....can I use sanded caulk with no problem?

You generally use the type of caulk to match the type of grout. Sanded caulk with unsanded grout will be a better match than unsanded caulk and sanded grout.
