White stain on dark grout

After cleaning up dog urine accident, my dark grout looks white in areas now. I would like some suggestions for taking care of this problem. The tile is only 7 months old and the grout was sealed.

Thanks!
LA

Hi LA, Welcome!

What did you use for cleaning? It may be as simple as neutralizing your cleaning product. More details please.

Water and vinegar to start; then a couple of different cleaning products with a toothbrush on the white areas, 409, then Kaboom. Not much if any improvement.

Hi LA

For starters, try ammonia and water (3 parts water to 1 part ammonia). Allow to dwell about 5 minutes, agitate (with brush), rinse.

You might wanna consider colorsealing your grout.

Hi Troy

That's an excellent recommendation for people who have pets!

I don't think you will be able to clean that back to black. It typically is not a question of discolored but loss of color. The urine will eat through the clear sealer and when left sitting on the grout will remove the pigmentation. Clear sealers only provide you with a little bit of time to clean up the spill or urine in this case. It does not prevent penetration of the grout, in this case, for more than 15 minutes probably. Colorseal! That will provide you with a topical coating that protects the grout and prevents the urine from reaching the grout totally. But before you do, be sure to use something to neutralize the odor. The odor comes from the bacteria that eat the urine. As they die off, they produce an odor. The UR-Gone or some other similar product will take care of that.
