Remove Schluter Quadec Button

Does anyone have advice how to remove a Quadec Button from the trim? I put thinset on the button into the trim, however I now realize is did not have the orientation correct. Its a small error, but keeping me up at nights.

I was going to leave it, but I had to change the tile to the side of profile and now have access to the button. The button is slid into the top row Quadec. (please see image). The tiles inside the niche are not set, so there is a possibility to cut and remove the top quadec. So far I have not been able to push the button out, try to minimize any damage.

Thanks for any thoughts.

The only way to remove that corner is to pull it up from the top. If the Quadec metal is removable right now then it would be simple. But you're asking on the forum so I'm guessing the Quadec is still thinset in.

Unfortunately, the tile above would have to be removed or the metal would have to come out. Neither one sounds fun.

You might call it a quirk and embrace its originality.

You might try a multi-tool to cut it out (protect the profile below and to the side the best you can). You may not be able to get a new corner piece in without also triming away some of the back channel that is supposed to act as the grout channel between the profile and tile. Good luck on whatever you decide!

Success. I got it out. I used a punch and a hammer to tap on the button (corner profile) in order to break the thinset bond. I was then able to get some needle nose pliers on it and pull it out. I need a new corner profile now, but the $12 is worth it for the full night sleep.

Nice job, Monty! I know if that were mine it would have irritated me forever to have to leave it in place, so I'm happy for you that it ended up coming out as easily as it did.

Very nice job! Luckily you had the corner piece in the top profile. I assumed it was in the side profile. Sleep well

I thought it was in the other way, too. Glad that you got it out!
