Pitched Shower Ceiling

Hi,

I am doing a shower with a pitched ceiling, kind of like this. I was going to put 1/2" hardibacker on it and tile. Problem is that the trusses are 2ft. on center, and I think Hardi says that things should be 16" o.c. max. Is this an issue? Could I throw some blocking in to get more nailing, or is another solution preferable?

Could I do something else other than tile that would provide a reasonably watertight seal? I think the tile might look a little odd with the rest of the ceiling, as it continues on up past the shower (I think the total ceiling height is about 9 1/2 feet).

Thanks for any help.

You are on the right track. Just add some horizontal blocking.
