so when you rub the olive oil or soap into the taledac stuff, there is a chemic reaction that causes waterproofing PERMENANTLY? I thought it was like a topical application, like wax on a floor.

From the info I'm gathering the polish is where you spend the time, from Kirks video the olive soap was quickly applied and he mentioned I'll let the homeowner put on a couple coats if he wants...

When you are doing it you are polishing the soap INTO your mix with a small stone because that's your waterproofing, you don't fly through that stage and wipe it real quick with the soap and call it good.

When it's done right, the walls actually have a gloss to to them, Water will look like it's on a lily pad because it actively repelling the water. I'm still learning about this method and Kirks video looked perfect up until the soap application, that's where you spend the time and really polish the shower down.

The tadelakt is supposed to perform for years when done properly and yes Mike it's a chemical reaction that makes it waterproof not a wax coating where the wax is the waterproofing. The BIG question I'm still researching is what type of things break down that waterproof layer. But if you "clean" with the right soap every month, you are basically adding or reconditioning that waterproof layer, sort of like seasoning a cast iron pan with a light coat of oil after use.
