Black on chrome

Great combination on bikes and trucks but not my Schluter strip (installed). Anyone have any idea what this could be and how to resolve the issue? It almost looks like some kind of acid etching. Any tricks to polishing out this mystery blemish? Sorry no pics.

All I know is that acids have ill effects on metals.

Thanks. Iím actually in that house now. Not sure what it is. I was just thinking it looked like finish had been taken off.

Thinset will do that sometimes if left on the surface
