Correct thinset to use, correct edging to use?

G'day all, newby here - long time reader but first time poster.

A couple of questions prior to tiling my hallway and adjacent bath, if I may.

First, tile is going over bare concrete. Tiles are 12X12 ceramic, grayish black with a slightly irregular surface. Color does not go all the way through the tile. What's the best thinset to use?

Second, the tile in the hallway will end at the end of the hall and those last tiles will be cut on a diagnal. Carpeting will need to butt up against these cut tiles. What product is used to finish the edge of the tile?

Hi, Dan!

A good quality latex modified (sometimes called "fortified") thinset will be fine.

If you weren't cutting the tiles, I'd suggest you secure your tackless to the floor about 1/2" away from the tiles, then push the carpet down into the joint. You wouldn't need anything on the tile side. However, the cut edges of the tiles will be a problem. Check out Schluter's line of edging for that carpet to tile interface.

Excellent - the modified thinset. Pretty certain it's available at the local HD which, tragically, is only a few minutes from my home.

I don't recall seeing any Schluter products - for that many any product, that is meant for edging tile at HD but then again I haven't really looked either. Assuming it isn't at HD/Lowes, is the edging a fairly common item that a real tile shop would have in stock?

Finally, excellent job on deciphering the handle Bob. Mine's a '66 Impala.
