Unhappy Lines

Help! I just pulled up some 190 vynle tile to reveal the southern pine flooring beneath. I can't seam to get out the checkerboard lines that remain. I took at least 3/16th of an inch off and it seams like the lines between the tiles have gone through the wood. Sanding is not the answer...should I try bleaching or staining? Maybe something else...

You could try bleaching the floor. Test a small area first. How long has the vinyl been down? Sound like the pine soaked in the glue.
