glass mosaic accent wall

I have a wall 5ft. wide x 8.5ft. tall wall using glass and stone mosaics on a 12x12 sheet. This is not a wet area.

1) can I use "tec" universal mastic so I can complete it in one day?

2) If I must use thinset how far up can I tile where the tile will not buckle?

I have used universal mastic in non wet areas with great success. It has great adhesion and non sag properties. The next day tiles are bonded and the mastic is hard. I just do not know if it will be suitable for this project with the glass.

Thanks for any input

I wouldn't, I'd use a quality non sag thinset like ardex x77, laticrete Tri lite, or even customs pro lite. You say it has stone and glass, mastic doesnt mix well with stone you run the risk of oil from the adhesive bleeding through the stone. That's just one hacks opinion though...

Hi Mark,
We'd suggest not using a mastic with glass tile ever. It may seem to bond well initially, but over time it will likely disbond from a material like glass. As long as you are going over a suitable substrate, we would suggest using LATICRETE Glass Tile Adhesive, or 254 Platinum (White), and then a non-sanded grout to prevent scratching the face of the tile.

We don’t understand the question about how far up can I tile where the tile will not buckle?, But, you can go as high up as you want with either thinset, and it won’t buckle… Hope this helps, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to our technical team at 1.800.243.4788.
