Surfing

Threads for all other sports figured there was room for another. World tour is in Tahiti right now. Semi-finals and finals coming up. Some best conditions ever. Got home just in time!

No, Dana, never made it there. About the closest I got was Western Samoa.

How's your surfing career? Didn't realized you had moved until recently.

Here's a clip of my favorite surfer, Kelly Slater, 42 years old taking down the 21 year old John John Florence. You

Jim, there's an expression that I like, " if you don't still surf, you never really did!" Glad your brother is still getting it.

Another one. "You don't quit surfing because you get old, you get old because you quit surfing."

I'm fortunate to have met some folks who've been at it for many decades and they're still at it - we've been hittin it at sun up with a good group. One of the regulars, a 65 year old guy who gets many of the biggest and best waves, and I were discussing another old dude who misses a bunch he goes for one day. Later when we got to talkin with him, turns out he's 75 and still goes out every morning - ok, he gets a bye. Another gal, who's in great shape and a good surfer, is 70. And another, and another... it's inspiring to say the least.

As a newb, i feel very fortunate to be out there with that crowd as the sun comes up.

Dan nice clip. Being a Hawaii resident I root for John John.
But being a early 40's east coast native I have huge respect for Slater. Its funny when you are watching sports and anybody near your age is considered old and is retiring (see Derrick Jeter)

I figure I'm still at the top of my game like Slater (tile setting not surfing )

Sad thing is I spend more time driving by looking at the surf than getting in the water. But that is my fault, no excuses.

I grew up in SoCal, and graduated out of San Clemente HS with Christian Fletcher. My favorite spot was point at Salt Creek. Big days were always spent at Trestles. Flat summer days were at 36th street in Newport, just for the girls.

We(family and I) make a few trips to the beach every year, but anymore I spend more time snowboarding in the winter, than surfing in the summer. I'm getting older, and overhead days wear me out quick now.

We used to live right in front of this spot.Lymans.

If we had days that was 3'+....no tilesetting that day, lol.Im actually a sponger,I dont know if that is "appropriate" for this thread...haha.

This is #1 why living in TX sucks.Im usually watching clips of breaks around the world fantazising......

Life without waves...i miss it alot.

LT, spongers rip too! Unless they're Brazilian. Then they are speed bumps.

Funny how many texans one will run into in El Salvador and Mexico. Cheap short flight to great waves.

Biggest south shore swell of the year here. Spent most of the time runnin from them. Was sitting outside of where we normally sit, and the first set wave was big. The next was bigger and farther out, and the next was even bigger and even farther out. Most sets were 3 or 4 waves, each bigger than the previous. Unless you've sat out there with them, it's hard to explain... I was and am awestruck.

This morning we escaped to town and enjoyed the relative calm of just overhead sets.
