hardboard furring for shower cement board

Hi All, I'm new here and am doing a DIY bathroom remodel. I am using 1/2" HardiBacker with RedGuard for the tile shower walls.

I need to create furring strips to bring the HardiBacker panels out from the studs slightly due to the cast iron shower base I'm using. Would 1/8" hardboard (same material as pegboard, but not perforated) be ok in this application?

Thanks!

Welcome here, I Don't Huff. We are a friendly bunch around here and we like to know who we are dealing with. Would you mind dropping a name into the signature line?

Sure, no problem there. Anything to bring it out to where it needs to be and doesn't compress when fastened into!

Just a question, not to be nosy, but how are waterproofing your surround? We're pretty big on doing it right.

PS. Sorry there, I didn't see it. You already have a name, Isaac!

PSS. Maybe I should read the original post first, I see you are using Redguard. Very good!
