The Eddie was good. Love that we can watch all these events online now. JJ Florence was ripping. Slater didn't do too bad either...for an old guy.

A week ago today in Encinitas, CA. Borrowed a board and caught this right hand reef break known as Swami's.

I caught a few heats of the Eddie before work, then saw the last heat when I got home. Big gnarly surf for sure. Another big NW swell hitting us now, with plenty wrap down my side. Was out today but pretty windy.

That right looks nice Dan, glad you were able to get some while out there. Not too crowded either!

Surprised Kelly didn't get a bigger number with his barrel. Guess they were looking at other stuff...

Surfin the Amazon

watch out for the crocs, piranhas, snakes, etc... Almost makes surfing here seems tame by comparison. Almost.

Ahhh summers almost here, which means s. shore surf & warm water. The waters already warmed up, and having a good swell right now. It'll only get better.

And that same wave Dan linked to on a bigger day.

Cool clip, never saw that before. It was macking last week too.

And what with the "water has warmed up"? Dana, you live in Hawaii! It's always warm, dude.

Congrats to Joanne Defay who won today. Most impressive however, is Bethany Hamilton.

Kelly Slater:
Anyone who isn't inspired by @bethanyhamilton and her physical attributes after losing her arm to a tiger shark in Kauai some years ago should check their pulse. The hardships she overcomes to perform at the level she does in the ocean is arguably unparalleled in men's or women's sport.I think everyone should have a full surf with one arm strapped to their side and attempt not only to paddle out but put themselves in position at heavy spots like Pipe, Jaws, and Cloudbreak, and try to get up on a short board. I'm scared to try it myself and ridiculously impressed with her talents. Congratulations on your third place result at #Cloudbreak, @tavaruaislandresort. Great to watch you surf in those conditions.

Yea I know... but, winter is colder not as warm.

Was out this pm in a nice south swell, now catching up on what I missed. I heard Bethany Hamilton had a wild card, and then to see her compete is just amazing. I'm in awe watching her rip on those waves.
