stuck: old concrete shower pan (on wood?)

currently remodeling entire shower.

do I remove this existing concrete pan, or can I use it and salvage the sides with new concrete? (for purposes of laying thin-set and tile..)

this pan has a steep slope to the drain, has a rough surface area, and is old.

The question is can I still salvage this pan? Or does it make more sense to jackhammer it out?... it appears to be laid on wood but Im not 100% sure this is my first time doing anything like this. some signs of moisture around some of the wood framing :/

Thank you and kind regards in advance! I am very stuck right now.

Welcome, Scott.

The only thing surprising about your rotting floor is that it's not much worse. The problem with your shower receptor is that you apparently have no waterproofing at all. Poured concrete (what you appear to have) around an inappropriate type of floor drain does not make a waterproof shower receptor.

I would recommend you remove what you have and begin the new shower with at least a properly repaired floor.

Several methods available for building the new receptor and you'll need to chose one before you advance beyond the new subfloor.

My opinion; worth price charged.
