fireplace surround
Planning on tiling my fireplace surround with travertine. I am worried about cracking from expansion of different materials. The hearth and sides of the fireplace were stone that I floated with mud but the area above the fire box is painted plaster. I'm afraid that the tiles or grout lines will crack between the Mud/plaster transition. should I just sand the paint off the plaster and tapcon/thinset some 1/4 inch cbu over the whole thing? if so can I tapcon into the floated stone?
