Red Wing Boot Recall

Hey all,

Long time no see.. been busy, which is a good thing.

I just wanted to make you all aware of a boot recall.

Red Wing Boots is recalling over 100,000 pairs of boots sold between Oct 2012 and Nov 2013.

More details here..

Moderators: If you find that this is not the correct forum for this thread please feel free to move it, however, I felt that it would get the best exposure here.. and being that it is a safety issue, I also felt that exposure is key. Thanks.

LT, my name is Ken.. not Kevin.

You've never heard of Red Wing Work Boots? They are only the best made work boots on the planet. I guess all you residential guys aren't required to wear work boots with steel toes..

Think it fits better here in the general subject forum, Ken. Lotta work trucks get recalls, too, and those could possibly be safety issues for someone on here, but I don't think we need all of'em in the Hangout with the tile discussions, eh?

I wear RedWings daily and have for some decades. Didn't buy any during those dates, though.

My boots are recalled, looks like I'll be getting a new pair tomorrow.

CX, I was undecided as to where to create the thread.

LT, actually your statement is partially incorrect. All construction sites that are permitted are regulated by the government for safety concerns. OSHA could stop by a job you're working on and fine you.

Believe it or not, here in Michigan MIOSHA stops at residential job sites.

Add some Tuff Toe http://www.tufftoe.com/ to a pair of Red Wings and those boots will last a long time. even for a tile setter.

Ken, lucky LT lives back in the East Texas woods and doesn't come out very often.

Haven't had a pair in a few years, butt Redwings are easily the finest pair of work boots you will ever own.
I am purely remodel residential nowadays so the old Addis have taken the place of boots.

I wear my 2233's everyday to work and have the 1170's for the weekends.I only do residential renovations but I like to have a steel toe.

Redwings are super stiff for about 2 weeks and then the most comfortable boot ever.

Been through lots of pairs of the 2233s over the years, Brian, and wouldn't know what to do without'em. One of my feet got more and more weird than the other one over the years and I finally got RedWing to agree to sell me one size for one foot and a different size for the other. They do that regularly in some of their other styles, but not the 2233.

Little shop in Ruidoso, NM called Brunell's is where I been buyin' those boots for many years and the proprietor there is the one helped me convince RedWing.

I really like the soles on those 2233's, too. Softer than Vibrams and when the tread is mostly worn off the center they are really good for walking on the rocks lookin' for Ibex. Add some of Davy's Tuff Toe and those boots are the berries for construction work.

I had a great pair of Red Wings that had an over toe piece that made them look like steel toes but they were not. Don't remember the name or style.

And like has been mentioned, get through that break in period of a couple weeks and they is the most comfy works boots you will ever find.

Of course tiling floors all the time would wear out the toes long before the rest of the boot was war out, I've used the Tuff Toe on my Wolverines too. Tough stuff yet stays more flexible than epoxy that I have tried.

For those who may wonder....

Red Wing shoes and boots use to be made in Red Wing Minnesota, a town on the Mississippi River about fifty miles south on Mpls/St Paul. Red Wing was one of my favorite stops while riding on the old Milwaukee Railroad.

Red Wing is home to Granddad Bluff, lotsa' nice bars, both good trout and Mississippi river fishing, a large soy bean processing plant and cement plant, Red Wing Pottery of collector's fame, and the long standing Red Wing School for boys.

It was not unheard of for Red Wing High school graduating classes to set alla' vegetation atop' Granddad Bluff on fire on graduation night cloaking the entire town in blinding smoke.

Red Wing Mn is now home to a nuclear power plant on Indian reservation land..... a state trade with the tribe that allowed them to start Minnesota's first gamboling casino.

Red Wing shoe usta' make nice ice skates designed by Ken Bartholomew (a close personal friend) who won an Olympics silver speed skating medal.

Lotsa' history behind them boots...... which are prolly' now made in China.
