This is a great forum!
I am currently installing 12x12 granite tile for my kitchen countertop. Some "experts" have told me that I can "butt" the tiles up flush together in order to achieve that "slab" look. However, other "experts" have told me to leave at least a 1/16 space for the grout. I am totally confused!!! I prefer the slab look but want to do a proper job. Please Help!!!!
Thanks!
Matt

If you want a proper job then use a 1/16" grout line, you'll never get "that slab look" because of the way the tiles are made.

Slabs are slabs and tiles are tiles I'm afraid.

Hi Matt,

I agree with Bud. The tiles are not meant to be butted together.

Marble/Granite spacers

I use USA pennies (coins) as spacers. They do not compress, bend, etc. They cost one penny each.

Great Idea! They're even thinner than the 1/16's. I'll just pluck them em of my fuse box! Maybe I'll try dimes - nah too expensive.
