"6-Sided Sealing" of travertine tile

We chose tumbled travertine for a master bathroom - 12x12 on main floor and shower walls, 2x2 on shower floor. It will be installed by our builder's sub, but we are trying to educate ourselves on the pros and cons to installation methods.

Wondering about 6-sided sealing for travertine - is this advised? Or overkill?

It would use considerably more sealer and so would be additional expense, but we are just fine with that if it comes with the advantage of preventing any picture framing or other discoloration issues. We don't have the expectation that the tile will be like a porcelain; natural variation and additional maintenance of natural stone are to be expected. Just want to try to avoid any man-made discoloration where possible.

Many thanks for sharing any thoughts or direct experiences,

Hi Kathy,

Travertine is a dense stone and does not require sealing.
