kerdi/bonsal niche

I just finished waterproofing a new shower with kerdi. I also just picked up bonsal niche for shampoo, etc. Has anyone ever done this combo before. The flange on the niche is 1/2" so looks like i'll need to install hardibacker anyway. Any suggestions?

The niche is waterproof, so all you will have to do is recess it so the flange is flush with your drywall, then overlap the flange with Kerdi when you do the walls.
