A long-time good client recently asked me to look over the showers in a condo he just bought. Three recently-remodeled showers, evidently just tiled before he bought it.
I found no signs of waterproofing at all in any of the showers; just tile on green board. While I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I told him these are mold-garden failures just waiting to happen, and that the only real solution is a tear-out.
He asked me to provide any info that I could find that he might be able to use to back his argument when he goes back to the realtor hoping for some recourse.
I have sent him a link to USG's webpage showing "...Not suitable for use as a substrate for tile in wet areas such as tubs and showers, gang showers and other areas subject to direct water exposure. ..."
I don't know that this will help him much, but I'd like to do what I can to help him without getting in the middle of it myself.
Any ideas from any of you regarding any other info he might benefit from?

Here's some of a tile job I paid someone to do while I was away on vacation in 2007. I had to redo a lot of it myself as I think the guy was in over his head (a tile setter for 20 years apparently).
Myself and my wife at the time were very disappointed to return to this...
I ended up fixing it to the best of my ability at the time... Last pic was my repair - first time tiling... It held up well until I sold the house two years ago.

I have a shower bench that was constructed of wood that has rotted and leaking in to the wall behind it. I need to have the shower bench rebuilt waterproofed and re-tiled and the drywall and trim replaced.
I have the tile. Please reply with an estimate and when you could do the job.
Thanks

We were not allowed up on the third floor. Toilet was leaking and there was cracked tile everywhere. Lasted about 2 years. A flip they never show you on TV. Contractor never pulled a permit. Can you say illegal apartment above!
Licensed plumber...I don't need no stinking plumber.

OK, I have to admit, it took me a few seconds to realise what I was looking at. Boggles the mind how anyone with any construction experience could do that.
Then again, most plumbers I know don't think it's a big deal to notch a joist a couple of inches to make their p trap fit. I try to educate them, but they just give me that look. The one where they're thinking "and who the hell are you?" because they apprenticed with an equally ignorant hack for 4 years.
