More pics from the 5 year old home that sold for nearly 900k 5 years ago.

Before anyone mentions my flip flops, they are part of the story. After doing the other 4 baths in this home I didn't think the master needed it. 12x24 travertine, shower not leaking etc. However, I noticed some black mold starting to grow on top of the travertine in some weird places. I figure I'll just try to take a piece or two off of the back wall to see what's going on and if it looks ok I can just put the pieces back up or if broken replace them with some similar travertine.

First piece I grab a hold of, using no tools, pops off from about 7' up and lands right on my foot. The next day I can no longer get my boot on due to massive swelling. Then the reality of the crappy shower begins to set in.

They used an ingenuous way to get rid of the hump caused by the liner, just use 1/4 rock on the bottom 1'. No backing behind it and you can imagine how flexible it was.

After removing the mud I notice a papery backed Noble pre-slope system. Notice the 4" flat strips of durock next to the knee wall. Yep, water settled there.

Weep holes caulked and mudded in, etc., etc. No mesh tape or waterproofing except that one corner on the knee wall. Not sure what the heck was going on there.

My next project is along the same lines.A master bathroom in a house that sold for 1.2 million. Its actually 2 complete bathrooms connected by a 6x6 shower in the middle. The mud pan completely cracked all the way across the center and came loose. The floor tile was set on 1/4 inch plywood.I did not get to see how the shower was constructed because the demo was done before I got there.

It will be all good now.Complete re do with Kerdi Board shower and Ditra Heat.

I had a laugh when the client handed me this tile to try and match, it's the decorative listello in their failing shower.

That's not too far from the truth -

Years ago when touring the TexRite plant here in Houston I was shown their two main products ; "wall mix" and "floor mix" The wall mix came in white bags with red lettering, the floor mix came in white bags with blue lettering. This was done so their target end users could tell them apart.

Does that make them illiterate in 2 languages ?

Didn't get any pictures, but current job had hardi and 20 x 20 tiles installed with a vinyl trowel. Zero coverage on tiles. And as I got the underlayment up, I noticed the subfloor is 1/2".
So today I get to pull and replace. Awesome.
And just to rant a little more. I'm sitting here waiting at the dump that is supposed to be open at 8. It's 8:05 and they are not here.

The client mentioned the guy covered the stove with a blanket to protect it. He accidentally turned the stove on and it caught fire. No damage but the client wasn't thrilled.

What do you mean MR board isn't water proof?

My fiberglass pan will never leak !

The epoxy paint will hide all our sins and the new owner won't have a clue.
