If you're like CX and worried about that tub lip not going all the way to the outside corners of the tub, here's the way to fix that problem:

Here's one a tile friend up in NJ sent me of a home they were doing.
they were tiling the floor and moved the fridge to show the backsplash ending.

That is not quite as absurd as it looks. When the fridge is installed, all you can see is a narrow band down the side. This way it looks like the entire wall is tiled. Of course there is that weird offset grout joint where the backsplash meets the cabinets. And the plumbing box is pretty weird. I wonder what they did at the top of the fridge. Since they come in different heights, installing a shorter fridge could look “interesting”.

Just got back from a trip to Florida......
The good...
Beautiful 24" rectified tile with mosaics from a La Quinta Inn, all perfectly flat with no lippage. Place had lots of tile including some nice work in all of the bathrooms, must have kept a bunch of pros busy for a while.
the bad (and ugly)......
This floor was in a decent brew pub, entire place had plank tiles with crazy lippage which they handled by smearing the grout to add "character".

Legend says that a contractor owned this house and remodeled the bathroom before the current homeowner bought it. Yes, that is quarter inch masonite shiny side up being used as the underlayment

I wouldn't doubt that was a contractors house. An electrical contractor.

William, we generally discourage folks from posting personally associated job sites on this particular thread on accounta it's too likely somethin' more than a bug might come back to bite ya, eh?

I'm not gettin ya, cx, but that's not your fault. I didn't build this originally. I'm just gonna fix it, and wanted to share what I found.

Thassok if you wanna post it, William. Just pointing out that your in-laws may not be thrilled to have their house featured on a Worst Tile Job thread on a public Internet site, is all.

William, you haven't heard any man scream like a girl until you watch Wiley open up a toilet drain and have multiple 2" cockroaches run up his arm. Having the 6 and 8 yr old girls witness that makes for some interesting family conversation. "Uncle Dave, show mom how you can scream like a girl........" The scream is followed by an entertaining dance too.

few years ago, kitchen condo (rental) remodel about 10 years old IIRC.

Solid, and no cracks
yes tile over the original vinyl floor, and had a 1x1 wall set on that for the backpanel on the peninsula over the dead area in the back corner of the cabinets
another bad one a while ago, new house on a NYS finger lake ( the big $$$$$ one) Just installed the kitchen, and 3 big bathrooms of cabinets and trim. was super rush needs done that month, house was prebuild brought in set the day before (they had to buy a lot and take down a good lakehouse just to get the sections down to the lake, and get the crane room to set them. Master bath just had rough framed ,tub surround. Local GC didn't know anything about what was going on for the tub surround, :neesie (got in early to get solid tops templeted, that was a known longest wait) Ms HO just knew it was tile, set my wall cabinets 1inch off stud frame surround, to work to with different scenarios. Showed CG man have tile guy work to that, If he wants to use less then 1/2 board furr out this small wall off the surround, whatever so he can just tuck the tile a little behind the frame. I think thats the best way I can set up the tile guy. Work on top off the side panels of the cabinet, boarder the side panel whatever thats on them. And its full overlay so DO NOT butt to the frame, door needs room ect. to cover my ass. Solid top guys set tops, I'm done bill gets paid. Over a year later HO calls looking for someone to put the cabinet supplied shoe on? I don't do that in just installs, or charged. The CG was in contract and paid to do it,but can't get a hold of him, long story, wants me, makes it worth it. Show up to this
Tiles are 3/8- 1/2 off my frame?? (just left a open gap) I don't think its possible to set tiles on the 2x frame (they would span whatever it was framed or they blocked/boarded it in soild) So even if its 1/4 board, there less then 1/8 thinset there set on. They sound super hollow, didn't want to tap on them to hard. From the rest of the work could be anything going on. Raw cut corner will cut you! Tub deck to wall grouted over and inch : and left like that shake:
Grout water and scratches all over the kitchen (big island with corble feet, and post) and vanities. Huge grout corners on the floor, not that a tile guy ever leaves thats .. HO wasn't really using the house much (has a few walk in showers not much use ) and very bummed about dealing with everything and not re doing it yet. but knows a guy to call.
