Our county inspector requires caulk under the stool. I think it's a terrible idea and only do it on new construction when required.

Hopefully you bid the tearout per square foot, and didn't bet it on Wichita State!

I'm really glad now I started this thread. Some pm'ed me at the beginning and said this shows tile in a bad light. I told them it actually shows people how you need a qualified tile installer and someone with skill or you job will turn out like some of these. You get what you pay for!

Well said Brian. I use the pictures and the posts to educate customers on why things need to be done a certain way and what happens if it doesn't.

This is one of my most favorite threads....
And in honor of that, here is the current shower I am working on.....
Nothing like using regular plastic for the pan of the floor., hardibacker right into the mud bed (aka regular solid concrete bed) which wicked up the entire sheet which was soaked compared to the sheet above which was dry and much light in color as you can see.

I don't understand why people/contractors can't spend 10 bucks and 10 minutes and do it right. I just spend 8 bucks and redid the pvc drain on my AC because the AC guy was a moron. Now it drains instead of shutting off and flooding.
