Most of my work is over slab, so 2" x 4" x 16" concrete brick installed with rapid set if necessary. Waterproof with Hydroban or Kerdi or Noble if you prefer.
It is solid, inexpensive material, and no carpentry tools needed.

<Tap, tap, tap> "Water......want......out."
Ptoooey!! I held it as long as I could.
"Alright, boys. Time to install this here recessed soap dish, but we're gonna have to get rid of this stick that's in my way."
Liquid nails is cheaper if you buy a case at a time. Aaaaand, it's waterproof.
Yellow mastic....I guess. And check out that #10 cable in the background. It's a switch leg for stairway lights.
In the event of a leak, every shower should have a particle board subfloor to absorb and retain all water. Otherwise, it might run into the adjacent rooms and become visible to the homeowner.

Rick, I'm confused. You asked the question but then are confused why everybody started discussing how they do their curbs.

Got a call from a homeowner. They were paying a guy $20 an hour to tile their bathrooms. He grouted one bathroom the wrong color and didn't want to remove it so he stopped showing up.
No mesh tape on Durock, caulked the joints instead, one very light coat of Redgaurd on walls (still see grey spots), but didn't coat the niches at all. And I like the way he didn't remove the labels on the Durock.
Homeowner says there is a copper pan installed by the plumber in the upstairs master bath. I'm sure it is up to spec
Cuts in bathrooms he finished, plumbing holes cut too big, and slightly big on the electrical boxes.
At least they set the tile with thinset over cbu. Its not like this is Florida/Arkansas

I love the light switch. He must not have had a screwdriver with him?

Welcome, Stoner.
Can't tell who you're trying to locate with your question. Most of the pros will have a general location listed in their User Profile.
Speaking of which, it'd help if you'd narrow yours down to just one state, at lease. We understand that folks might work in a wider area, but we're looking more toward information about where you're based. But that's entirely up to you.

What's wrong with this?
This is a shower that I bid and the customer went with the cheap guy. He keeps posting pics on facebook of the progress. How many things are wrong with this install that are just visible in the pic?

Oh this is fun! Lol
Let's see, I see pressure treated lumber, no membrane or waterproofing of any kind anywhere, corner seam not taped, an unusual layout in the tile, less than a half tile cut on the bottom (I'm guessing it could've been avoided) tile looks crooked so far... Loos like a dip in the mud on the far side about 1/3 from the left, and maybe a bird bath in the near right corner...
Also, hard to tell from that photo, not that we know what their waterproofing method was, but the mud looks to shiney to be of anything I use, perhaps because it is some kind of concrete mix?

Somebody should contact the homeowner the police or the military before he/she pays the bill. Wow!

I'm pretty sure the mud is over the bottom piece of tile and I know the mud is over the board bc I saw that from other pics. When I commented on the facebook pic asking where the pan liner is he deleted my comment.
