LOL @ Brian!

Actually, the other corner was "messed up" in the reversed manner, so it could have been done the other right way

Does this fall under this thread?

Just watched an episode of This Old House. The tile guy doing the shower was a featured segment. He was doing a hot mopped shower, starting the floor off with Laticrete 3701 and those black plastic screed sticks. He mixed the 3701 like sidewalk ceement, then poured it under the sticks (which were shimmed with wood blocks), making sure to get it through the holes, but he stopped short on filling the whole pan. He said he would then come back and add the top layer of deck mud. Didn't wait around for the next episode.

And I thought TOH were the good guys.

I saw black everywhere on the base and assumed it was hot mopped

It was a copper pan under the floor mud. I was thoroughly confused as well at the procedure.

I've lived in North Carolina for over 8 years. One of the first customers I worked for and two of the nicest people I have ever known in all my years of being in business, called me a few weeks ago to look at their bathroom floor as they are considering selling the house. What I found was 8x8 tile installed directly over particleboard. The most disturbing aspect of this, it was installed by the person they hired to build their house. Unbelievable!!

You are right for the most part Dane!New England does use copper pans. I probably did 100 or more copper pan showers in the start of my tile trade because thats how I was taught & untill I began to educate myself & start dictating what products & methods I would or would not use it was the right way!!
The irony of all the copper pans I did , non leaked ! except one,the last one I ever did was after my education & the GC already put it in ,cbu`d all walls & I was in need of work so I said I`d do it as I had in the past but he would have to sign off on it & he agreed but our paths never crossed again I billed him got paid & was done!
or so I though !! 8 months later it leaked & I replaced it 2 feet up outs my own pocket cause the GC denied to the HO of any talk of sign off ! Prolly wouldnt do me any good in court anyhow ??
I still have that 3x5 copper pan along with 3 others I`ve ripped out in my barn & someday when I get a round to it I`ll tak`m the the scrap yard & sell`m
