Very nice work all

Here is a new construction spec home we did in Grand Junction, Colorado about a month ago. I forgot to take pics, I just went back today to put China Appricot slate on the fireplace and snapped a few. This was a California Gold slate master bath grouted with Mapei Ultra Color plus Grey. China Appricot slate guest bath grouted with Mapei Ultra Color plus pearl grey, and another guest bath done with Dal's BC01, grouted with Mapei Ultra Color plus Bone. The niche in the guest bath was my first K-board niche. I layed it out after I started tile, and fit one perfect full piece in the niche, I was pretty prout of it, and Kerdi board niches are the way to go. I have since done 4 of them. The nich in the master and the BC01 bath were already framed in. I spent a little time chiseling edges of the slate but the builder didn't want me to spend to much time as this was a spec home. I love the look of slate, but HATE working with it. I can't stand the uneven grout joints, and spend way to much time trying to perfect horrible tiles. I dumped the worst of them, but had to use some. A few that got dumped were 5/8" out of square in 12". No Joke The decorator wouldn't let me use a color enhancer either

All showers were Kerdi / Aqua Defense hybrids, and all floors were Ditra

It doesn't look like it at all in the pics, but the inner row all around the fire place (top, left, right) are all cut at 6 1/8" and the outer row (top, left, right) all cut at 10 1/2". That is the reason for the 2 1/2" strips on the bottom. If I would have centered the grout joints on the right and left side I would have ended up with a 5" dutchman in the center, and I can't stand dutchmen's.

LT.... where do I start? Retired GM Engineer 2001.. F.I.L. helped me with my kitchen and to return the favor, I helped him for a while with several projects he had goin.
After six months of working with him, one day he asks me - "I suppose you're wondering when I'm gonna start payin ya".....
I replied Yes...
We worked together for the next four years till he had to quit due to cancer..

It was some of the best and worst days of my life. Ed became more of a buddy than a F.I.L. and we really enjoyed working with each other although you'd never know it from the way we grumbled with each other.. One lady said we were like an old married couple. I get a little melancholy every time I think of working with Ed - still...

After Ed died, I went several months not doing any tile work, but really missed it, so I started back up and still do a little here and there, but only what I think will be fun.... If not, I give it to friends that do it for a living..
Ed's last name is Tinch... ergo Tinch Tile, and I still use the name..

and then there is family... seems like everyone needs something done..

Sooooo.. do I run an actual tile business? well.. not really, as I could never support myself and family doing tile.. Too damn slow...
but the IRS thinks I do, so I guess I do...

Nice work all. Looking good Levi.

Here's a little something I threw together. Still waiting for the slab curb but have to cover the floor tomorrow before the carpenters get to it.

Thanks. I'm crossing my fingers that the dimensions the cabinet guy gave me are dead on so my border runs right along the vanity toe kicks...and a pic of my mud/kerdi board combo.
