Hi jason..the neon lights are around an inch in size...

Some tiles do bookmatch but not many...not easy to bookmatch when cross bonding and the stone was random seclection from 2 crates i think, the customer selected most pieces herself from the stone supplier..

Some really nice stone is hitting the uk market. a lot of turkish stuff.

Are you guys seeing this as well..?

Yup- Bursa beige beveled subway tiles.

Bursa is the 2nd largest (I think) city in Turkey.

Recent backsplash on Botticino countertops.

Oops, this is "Works in progress" thread.

Here's one in progress, inside corner pieces are coped in, nor mitered.

John,
They are 1/16" glazing shims, otherwise known as "blue horseshoes". You can also get them in 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4" dimensions. He's snapped them in half and, then because he's a stingy SOB, he's cut them into quarters to save himself a few pennies.
IF you search amazon for "horseshoe shims", you'll find a few different makers. I like the ones from "Diamond Tough" because they can be snapped but aren't so rigid that they break easily. I also like that they float in a bucket, rather than sink.

Best of luck,
Shaughnn

Not really - we are still working our way through a glut of poor quality Chinese crap. Some importers will look for more quality stones, but unfortunately a load of them will be looking for - and selling - "bargains". The markets are flooded with operators charging ridiculously low prices for stone (and stone services) and consumers have a hard time distinguishing between the choices of good quality or low price. Stone is stone, right?

There are reports of billboards advertising free stone if you pay (a pittance) for fabrication and installation. I think this was spotted in DC, but I'm not sure. It's been a while. Sad, really.

I buy them in packages of 1000 for a pretty reasonable price here:

(2nd to last section-- the non-interlocking shims)

Dan-- that's about what my truck looked like last friday!! I had 30 sheets of 1/2" cement board and 15 bags of sand mix on the back of my 1/2 ton truck.

Still can't understand why I had to replace a busted leaf spring the beginning of last week.
