With bad walls and big tiles many times you can pull a piece back off only to find that due to one corner being too high there is no thinset transfer at all in other spots. Very common
My question is how does the TLS fix that..or is it just that once you set the tile and tighten it up you never bother to check for coverage since your not pulling the tile back off?
Or do you put up each tile and pull each piece back off, inspect for coverage(and of course add if need be) then put it back up this time with the TLS?
what gives, unless your doing something special the the TLS is not going to bend the tile to conform to the walls and take out naturally occurring low spots that happen.

Jim, I know your concerns. It is a feel thing though. I know when there isn't enough. We all "know" when we have to take one down. I will say that anyone comfortable spotting walls, shouldn't take issue though.

I feel the same way as Joe, like someone who sees you do something and they never done it. From experience you know if you don't have enough thinset under that tile. When you go to tighten the straps, if that tile pulls in too much, you know you gotto unstrap it and add.
Yes you should not use this system if your walls are way outta plumb. In that case you should be fixing the walls, or mudding them. And yes, mud shower wall= no TLS needed, same for mud floor. Redundant to use both.
If your wall has a few dips, TLS is great. Bulges not so great. Preparation of your walls is mission essential as it is always for tile installation. Of course its not for every installation but in the times I have used it in a shower project I am glad I did. In my 250 sq. ft. marble shower, I had zero lippage cause a the TLS, well maybe a little lippage on the ceiling cause no way was I using it 10 ft up on a ceiling. So it has its place. A learning curve like anything else

It's tough to see, but there's a 2" gap between the bench and curb, still a bad design. (not mine)

Nice to see something a lil different Chuck, I really like all the materials used on that job. The tile and feature area go great with those detailed cabs. I like the way you did the shower and tub area as well. High End Craftsmanship in that house
Gram, nice, I like how the horizontal boards are stepped down to meet the vertical ones if that is the right way to esplain it. Guess it depends on the angle your looking at the floor.
