Steve,
Are those tilespikes? Or Barwalt blue grippers?
I have never used chicken wire, I have only torn it out. We use 2.5 lb wire mesh also.

Mesh only if nailed to floor, usually filled with thiset as per Frankengueuze spec 14.27 . Welded wire 2" x 4" in bigger mud floors.
Don't say you can't get it, you're just not looking in the right place.

2" x 4" WWF at a fence supplier near you. Harder to find 2x2 in these parts.

Here's a Wedi tub and shower we got going on this week. Got inspected already, and we're clear for tile. Client still trying to decide on the material, but hopefully that will be finalized over the weekend.

Wedi makes a prefab pan right?
Here's a picture of something that we fight all the time on slab installs..Electricians and finish carpenters using the sink bridge as a step. If they break or crack the top no one ever admits to it..Have had 2 such instances in less than 2 years. I caught the sparky red handed on this one and took a pic of the footprint as evidence. Bad thing is this job had been in place less than an hour and I was just stopping by to look the final job over..Hell the silicone wasn't even dry

Yep, wedi does make the prefab pan. Ive never used it and probably never will. I got turned off when I was getting certified the guy keep saying be sure you do this or it will fail, if this aint done it will fail, if you dont tighten this enough it wont work. To many variables for my likeing. Its basically a compression fitting drain assembaly.

Yeah, they make em, but I don't use them. Thats one part where the expense doesn't make sense to me. This is just a regular mud pan.

So your using a trowel applied membrane? That's what Jeremy was looking at too.. I think..In your pic the Wedi runs to the floor and there doesn't look like there is a pan in yet. Just curious.

Trask,
That's crazy with the slab. Good photo! I wish you had a photo of the guy standing up there.

I also use the ' metal mesh ' for shower mud pans, can find it in most hardware / gardening stores if your away from your regular supplier.
That's a nice detail in the middle of that sink Trask, that a standard, or custom request ?

Trask,
I'll do you one better. In addition to the tapers walking across the bridges of BOTH sinks, they also stood on top of the $12K Wolf 60" dual-fuel range! Idiots!
Brannigan,
What are you using to cut your Wedi? I'm really liking my DeWalt 6.5" circular saw for most of the cutting, though I keep an Olfa Heavy-duty snap-off knife for trimming, cut-outs and rough cuts.
I see that you are using a standard caulking gun. Have you tried a sausage gun for your Wedi jobs yet? More economical in the long run, tough you do need to be careful with storing the chubs. I use this gun from Newborn and I like that it comes apart for easy clean up at the end of a project. Some citrus cleaner on a towel pushed through with a stick is usually all it takes. The tips are disposable. I keep all of my Wedi materials in a big tool box, which keeps them together and tidy.
