Phil, I'll bet a nickel that the tiles came off so easy that cutting the sheetrock and pulling the tile and sheetrock together might would have resulted in a chipped tub. Just a guess though.
Okay, what Paul said.

The best part of having the work done all by the same pair of hands; only one person to blame. Plus it saves a huge amount of time as there is no waiting for the plumber to schedule time after framing, then waiting for the electrician... We set the valve bodies ourselves knowing exactly* where the tiles will fall, stuck out the proper depth, pointed in the correct direction, all plumb with each other. That last part seems to be a Herculean task for some round these parts. This particular shower has electronic shower controls and I'm not about to turn something so important over to some Junior plumber who bought his drivers license at the flea market a week ago someone less familiar with high end plumbing.
*as best as one can measure 12 steps ahead of time.

Tile was ceramic, purchased from the big box on the cheap along with the bullnose. So no profiling to be done. Job was done for a GC. I was there long after tile had been purchased and was just a cog in the wheel. Customer is happy, that's all that matters.

Valid points.I tell u what, alot of these "licensed" plumbers here in TX arent all they're cracked up to be.There are so many and seems like new companies are always popping up.I tell 'em-dont even set the drain.Just leave me a 2'' pipe stickin out.

Amos, technically in Fl. if you have a state license in any trade you can subcontract other trades involved in construction.
Most people don't know that.
I took the building inspectors test, but didn't become one when the crash happened. My brotherinlaw is one though, and is also a FEMA inspector.

Mastic or thin-set -- doesn't much matter. If you let it skin over the tiles won't stick too well.

Or maybe he's going to tile over the drywall.
Another good thing about mastic are the buckets they come in.
