Aquamix Enrich 'N' Seal questions.

Hi everyone. I tiled and grouted my kitchen last week. The grout I used is Polyblend dark grey. The grout color is a lot lighter than I expected and wanted. The color I was looking for is the dark grey look when the grout is wet. I have not sealed the grout as of yet. I was wondering if using Aquamix Enrich 'N' Seal will give me the look I am after. Has anyone had any experience with this product? Also how hard is it to apply? Thanks in advance, Sheri

John will probable tell you just wait a few weeks and it will get darker from all the grime and dirt that grout tends to attract

The aquamix site says it effectively darkens grout....worth a shot...

But once the sealer is on, you can't color the grout ( w/o removing the sealer)

Hi Sheri,

What you are talking about is basically an enhancer, a sealer that leaves somewhat of a wet look. Yes, the Aquamix will do that, but enhancers are better used on porous natural stone.

I think a better choice for a ceramic floor would be Tile Your World Grout Stain, which will actually render the grout the color you selected to begin with. Check out our stock colors in the store. Custom colors are also available.

Perhaps the light color is only on the surface. Many people have had success scrubbing the grout lines with a mild acid to remove a thin layer. Mix vinegar and water in equal parts, then scrub the grout lines with a plastic bristle brush. Wet the grout lines first with water, and rinse with plenty of water afterwards. Kemguru has mentioned that a surfactant in the vinegar/water solution will make it more effective.

Dave.

How's a newbie supposed to add a surfactant?

That was a teaser John. If the question got asked, I would innocently suggest a certain neutral cleaner.
