My Time in New Orleans....

From my late 20's to my 30's, I lived in New Orleans. It was the best time of my life...mostly spent in the French Quarter. I worked as a DJ and met Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix in my time there. The music I played reflected that. The Station was WWOM (Mother Radio) and it was exciting. I managed an antebellum house at 3211 Prytania St. in the Garden District. I could have bought it then for a little over $100,000. Recently, it was on the market for about 2.5 million. Would that I could do it over, eh?

A great piece of music that kinda reflects those days was from Ramblin' Jack Elliot. It concerns an address in the French Quarter....912 Toulouse St. I have been there. Jack's song is "912 Greens." Why, I don't know but I do know the address. It speaks to the time...the Mississippi river and the Jax Brewery...long since gone....Although he calls it the "Mrs. Miller River."

A heartfelt piece and I hope you enjoy it.

Journey - Of A Lifetime

I recently heard this and was blown away.

I can't imagine dropping a needle on this album, get in a comfy chair, and listening through some bad ass system and speakers. I hope ya'll older folk realize you were spoiled with music growing up.

So, there's a ski hill called Beech Mountain in North Carolina that had a big problem with a high-pressure water line that feeds their snowmaking guns. For those of you not familiar, oftentimes, these waterlines stretch from somewhere on the bottom of the hill, all the way to the top and they often follow directly under the chair lift. They are big lines, often several inches in diameter. Anyways, this water line burst/broke (lots of conflicting info) and shot straight up into the air in a high pressure-stream. Folks on the ski lift were blasted with the water.

At least one person was blown off the ski lift and dropped what looks to be about 15' to the ground. (This happened before the video started. I saw elsewhere on the 'net this person is very beat up, but she seems to be recovering.) Many were pummeled with water as they rode through the stream....but the lift operators mistakenly stopped the lift when someone was directly under the water.....and they did this twice to two different people. The prospect of being carried through the stream of water was frightening enough where several chairlift riders voluntarily chose to jump down off the lift instead of being carried through.

Justin. Great piece and a great band. I used to play that when I was a DJ....way back in the time in New Orleans. "Journey" rocks!

Justin, Faithfully by Journey was the first song I listened to on CD. And even better on some great haedphones. The first drumroll was absolutely outstanding. I had a great Marantz stereo that played the CD perfectly.

Bubba, I saw the video on citizenfreepress the day it happened. Unbelievable what those folks went thru.

Laz I'm sure you have a story or two of all the cool experiences being a DJ in 'Nawlins. Such a cool vibe there.

Jerry I'm pretty heavy into digital music. I'm saving up for a really nice DAC for the living room. I bought some Infinity P363 speakers right before I got married and have been very happy with the sound they produce with my receivers DAC.

Justin....Yeah I've got a few tales about time in the Crescent City. Met a lot of music greats there as well as some exploits that are better left unsaid on a public platform

I'll get around to a few of them one day on another thread...

I worked on air with WHFS in Bethesda, Md. and DC for a number of years in the late 60's and early 70's, It was a wonderful time in my life when I met many "Rock Icons." When it finally gave way to "Popular Music," it was a sad day. The station was finally closed down with this piece from Lou Reed. Certainly different from his standard fare....but fitting to an end....
