Yep, I've got two shots from over that pond, neither one of them any good. I took one of Patti with part of my finger over the lens, and she took one of me with the water out of level.

Here is my favorite Rainier shot from the trip. This is taken from the Paradise side at about 7,000 feet. We were hiking up the side one morning, and when I got to this spot I told Patti there was no need to go any further. It wouldn't get any more beautiful. We'll be spending more time up there this coming summer.

Have you folks heard that winter storms have brought havoc to the Mt. Rainier National Park.

This is a link to a story in the paper. Hope that there are repairs done by the time John and Patti are back up this way.

From the looks of things our friends in the Southern Hemisphere are getting quite a show from Comet McNaught. It would be fun the hear some first hand observations.

Yeah, that's not good. Our new trailer is too long to use any of the park campgrouds, so we'll have to stay at RV parks near the park entrances. The wiped out campground is on the way up to the Cougar Rock campground where we stayed last year. Maximum length for a trailer is 27 feet. My new one is 32.

Here are some pics of the flood damage.

Fantastic

John - Yep, those shots are fantastic. We're flying back over to Seattle this summer to spend a few weeks of our annual vacation there. We plan to spend a few days at Mt. Rainier National Park. We lived in Redmond for a while a few years back. I miss is terribly.

Well, you do go to the Pacific Inn for fish and chips at least once, don't you? Maybe we will meet up.

Hi Todd

Glad you enjoyed your meal there. You probably had the last good one

The main dock next to that restaurant has been closed since the 2004 hurricanes damaged it. It has not been fixed since and the guy feeding the pelicans has also moved on because of it. Much of Dock Street Cedar Key has gone to pot (yeah yeah - go ahead and have fun with that one ) The quality of the restaurants there is pretty poor now. There is one decent place - The Big Deck. Used to be Brian's Big Deck, but we had too much fun with that and the owner could not stand all the teasing, so he changed the name

The tender process for fixing and enhancing the main dock has started and we hope to have it in operation again sometime in 2008.

The only place that consistently serves great food on the island ( with a wonderful atmosphere to boot) is the Island Hotel back on Main Street.

Now if we could only do something about an overzealous police department and a very unpopular hotel/condo development, things would be good again.

Adriana,

I am suffering acute granite boneyard and grinder envy.

And aren't you a little overdressed for a Makita Girl?
