Dull yellow stains on White Arabescus marble

Folks,

A client has White Arabescus marble. Looks a lot like some types of Carrara, but she believes it's a Brazilian stone. See photo - some yellowish stains are showing up in odd places.

My first thought is that they're rust, since Carrara often has iron veins randomly running through the stone and they can be pretty intense after installation.

Her contractor used a Tenax Te Etch remover product and it actually removed some but not all. I looked it up - it's a marble polish paste. Those types of products tend to work only on light etches.

The yellow is on the side of a fireplace, only in one spot. Not where you'd expect wear and tear or liquid spills. Also on a vertical backsplash, not a horizontal countertop.

Any clues on what we could be dealing with? Yellow glue from installation, color bleeding through from behind the stone? Who uses yellow glue for marble? We only use white thinset...

Hi Clay,

I can't really see much in your picture . . . and I'm probably not knowledgeable enough to answer.

Just on the edge correct?

If the edge was pitted they may have swiped clear polyester on it to fill. If it gets UV light it will yellow.
