exterior backer board for stone finish

I'd like to finish a stone patio, set the stone over plywood which is framed 8 feet above grade with steel beams. with 5/4 plywood can i get an exterior backer board that will handle frost and new england winters? thanks. Andy

Is this a trick question? Ya gotta give us more info,joist spacing, span, is it covered,over living space?That sorta thing but already i'm thinkin mudjob or nuthin.
