Polished Marble Tub Surround and Bathroom Floor

I am a pretty good DIYer and I've done several tile jobs but I have a couple of questions about installing polished marble 12x12 tiles (Tan) in a tub surround and on the bathroom floor. First, can you install the tiles without any grout lines and if so do you then need to seal them with a sealer? I was told at the store where I purchased the marble that I could install it without any grout and I've seen it done in hotels but I wanted to double check before I got started. Hope you can help.

Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, Welcome!

It's a good thing you checked. Do not butt joint the marble. I like to use a 1/16" joint. We also always seal our grout joints.

Can you tell me why you don't butt joint them? And does the 1/16 joint still give you the (somewhat) solid look?

Hi Greg

You don't butt joint because chances are the grout will come loose.

It (somewhat) does, but no lippage and a monochromatic grout will also help.
